According to Hindustantimes, the domestic box office performance of Alpha has been characterized by extreme volatility over its opening week. While the film initially garnered positive attention, it has struggled to sustain ticket sales following a series of inconsistent daily collections.
Inconsistent collection trends
The production, which serves as the first female-led entry in the YRF Spyverse, managed to secure ₹34 crore net in India during its opening weekend. However, this initial success was followed by a sharp 70% drop in domestic collections on Monday, where it earned only ₹3.85 crore net. Although there was a brief recovery on Tuesday, the numbers plummeted again on Wednesday and continued to slide through Thursday.
By its seventh day in theaters, Alpha recorded a net collection of just ₹2.60 crore in India. This brings the total seven-day domestic haul to ₹47.55 crore, falling short of the significant milestone of ₹50 crore. The film's current trajectory puts it significantly behind Alia Bhatt's previous high-grossing projects, such as Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Market challenges and break-even targets
The film faces several hurdles to achieve profitability in the coming weeks. Trade insiders suggest that Alpha requires a substantial turnaround to meet its financial goals:
- Domestic net collection must exceed ₹100 crore.
- Worldwide gross earnings need to surpass ₹150 crore to break even.
- The film faces direct competition from the release of Dhamaal 4, which is expected to reduce its available screen count.
Directed by Shiv Rawail and written by Uday Chopra, Alpha features a cast including Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, along with a cameo by Hrithik Roshan. Despite the star power involved, the film has faced largely negative critical reviews, which may further impact its ability to recover during the second weekend. With diminished momentum and fewer shows, the path to profitability remains difficult for the studio.
