  • The new GitHub Copilot App for desktop integration.
  • Adoption of open-source tools such as Intelligent Terminal, WSL containers, Homebrew, and ZSH.
  • Integration of over 75 Unix utilities and HorizonDB Postgres-SQL management.

Furthermore, the M-Dash multi-agent AppSec harness was introduced to provide security oversight for code generated by AI models, collapsing critical security checks directly into the daily development loop.

The Intelligence Layer and Agent Runtime

Architecturally, the foundation of these announcements is Microsoft IQ. This intelligence layer unifies Work IQ, Fabric IQ, and Foundry IQ, providing a shared context for building agents. Complementing this, Project Rayfin was launched in preview as a managed backend-as-a-service on Microsoft Fabric. With a single command, developers can now auto-generate application database backends and deploy them to the platform.

To host these advanced applications, Foundry Agent Service reached general availability. This service provides a hosted runtime for long-running stateful agents utilizing a micro-VM architecture. The MAI family debuted with seven models built from scratch, distributed across various providers including OpenRouter, Fireworks, and Base 10. Notably, Anthropic Claude Opus 4.8 was elevated to first-class status within Microsoft’s model router alongside GPT-5.5.

Cross-Cloud Governance and Quantum Leaps

For enterprise adoption, Agent 365 reached general availability. This service functions as a cross-cloud governance plane, spanning AWS, GCP, and Azure. It ensures that agents possess their own dedicated enterprise identities under Microsoft Entra, Purview, and Defender, establishing a unified backbone for control. The event also looked toward the future of computing with the announcement of Majorana 2, a next-generation topological quantum chip boasting qubit lifetimes 1000 times longer than its predecessor.

These integrated announcements signal a comprehensive effort by Microsoft to move beyond simple AI features and establish an entire managed platform for building, governing, and deploying complex autonomous agents across hybrid cloud environments.
