According to Livedesignonline, the scale of Comic-Con requires robust and reliable visual infrastructure to manage the massive influx of devoted fans. Panels often operate on a first-come-first-serve basis, meaning that even those seated farthest from the stage need high-quality screens for live close-ups. To meet these demanding requirements, Show Imaging collaborated with Panasonic to equip the venue with a sophisticated production ecosystem.
Delivering Dynamic 4K Coverage
The core of the visual capture relied on several key pieces of equipment designed for fast and intuitive setup. The system included:
- 3 x Panasonic AW-UE150 4K PTZ Cameras
- 1 x AK-UC4000 Studio Camera
- KAIROS Live Video Production Platform
These cameras captured dynamic panels in 4K, providing precise color correction and shading to ensure consistent visual quality throughout the venue. Beau Monaghan, director of IT and video at Show Imaging, noted how crucial these tools were during a surprise appearance by George Lucas, creator of Star Wars. Fans received not only an exclusive announcement about the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art but also experienced close-up video of the legendary filmmaker sharing behind-the-scenes insights.
Seamless Integration Across Large Venues
To extend this visual consistency across the entire space, Show Imaging deployed 18 Panasonic PT-RQ35 Projectors. These projectors mapped content onto a massive 250-foot linear projection screen. The interoperable nature of Panasonic’s ecosystem allowed the cameras and projectors to function seamlessly together, delivering vibrant visuals at scale with minimal adjustment.
The KAIROS platform further streamlined operations by handling ST 2110 signals directly, eliminating extra conversion steps. Michael Dupaix, technology manager at Show Imaging, highlighted the operational benefits: “The integrated product line makes everything easier to manage,” he stated. “At Comic-Con, it’s been a gamechanger. We can create any output we need with studio-specific logos and overlays, embed all the audio directly on the platform, and even route signals to and from backstage seamlessly.”
This capability was perfectly demonstrated during the TRON: Ares panel. The production team used the PT-RQ35 Projector and PTZ cameras in tandem to capture a neon red laser light show and project it onto the LED screen, mirroring the action live for the audience. This level of integrated visual storytelling left attendees excited for the movie’s October 2025 release.
By leveraging Panasonic’s complete production ecosystem, Show Imaging was able to shift focus from technical complexity to creative storytelling and dynamic visuals, ensuring an unforgettable experience for every fan in attendance.
