According to Electrek, the upcoming 2027 BMW iX4 has been spotted during rigorous testing at the Nürburgring. The vehicle serves as a key pillar in BMW’s strategy to overhaul its electric fleet, joining other new models like the i3 sedan and the iX3 SUV. This move signals a major transition toward the brand's next generation of mobility solutions.
Neue Klasse design and performance
The iX4 is expected to debut officially by late 2026 or early 2027, positioned as a sleeker, more aerodynamic alternative to the iX3. While it maintains a coupe-like silhouette, it will share significant underlying technology with its sibling models. The vehicle will be available in two all-wheel-drive configurations: the 40 xDrive and the 50 xDrive.
Key technical specifications for the new lineup include:
- A high-capacity 108.7 kWh battery for European markets (112.2 kWh in the US).
- The sixth-generation eDrive powertrain system.
- An 800V architecture supporting DC fast charging up to 400 kW.
- A projected WLTP range exceeding 500 miles for the long-range variant.
Interior and real-world capabilities
While the exterior of the iX4 features a new four-eyed kidney grille, the interior is expected to mirror the high-tech layout of the iX3. This includes a massive 17.9-inch central touchscreen and the Panoramic Vision 3D Head-Up Display. The platform has already demonstrated impressive efficiency in real-world tests, with some models successfully completing over 620 miles on a single charge during independent evaluations.
Pricing for the iX4 is not yet finalized, but it will likely carry a premium over the iX3, which starts at approximately $61,500 in the United States. By leveraging the same 800V architecture, BMW aims to provide rapid charging capabilities, potentially allowing drivers to replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in roughly 21 minutes. The iX4 represents a critical step for BMW as it seeks to establish its dominance in the premium electric SUV segment.
